Transformative Partnership to Enhance Learning Opportunities and Connectivity in Pikine-Guédiawaye Schools

Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) joins forces with Free and the Pikine-Guédiawaye Academy Inspectorate of the Ministry of National Education to introduce a digital education ecosystem in five schools within Pikine-Guédiawaye. This initiative, stemming from a 2023 Memorandum of Understanding between Ericsson and Free, underscores their commitment to providing quality education equitably. The project aims to bridge the digital divide by leveraging Ericsson’s radio networks and Free Senegal’s Fixed Wireless Access solutions, facilitating quick deployment and reducing costs.

The collaboration will equip the schools with devices and equipment to foster interactive learning. Ericsson’s Connect to Learn operating system will enhance lesson planning and delivery, promoting student-centered teaching. Free Senegal will ensure quality internet connectivity, while both partners will provide laptops for learning. The Pikine-Guédiawaye Academy Inspectorate will play a vital role in empowering teachers through training in digital tools integration.

Gana SENE, Academy Inspector of Pikine-Guédiawaye, emphasizes the partnership’s significance in advancing Senegal’s digital education strategy and human capital development vision. The Economist Intelligence Unit’s report underscores the pivotal role of school connectivity in enhancing learning outcomes and economic growth globally.

Mamadou Mbengue, Managing Director at Free Senegal, reaffirms the commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal #4 through the Connect to Learn program, ensuring equitable access to quality education. Majda Lahlou Kassi, Vice President of Ericsson West Africa and Morocco, highlights Ericsson’s dedication to promoting inclusive education through innovative technologies like Fixed Wireless Access.

The collaboration between Free and Ericsson has yielded significant milestones, including the launch of 4G, LTE networks, and mobile financial services. The recent deployment of 5G in Senegal positions Free Senegal as a pioneer in innovation, promising unparalleled connected experiences for the nation.
