Kerala and Delhi orders closure of educational institutions amid heatwave preparations

In response to rising temperatures, both the Delhi government and Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan have taken proactive measures to safeguard the populace.

The Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE) has issued stringent guidelines for both government and private schools to combat the impending heatwave, prioritizing the safety of students and staff. These directives, numbering nine in total, aim to maintain a conducive learning environment while mitigating the adverse effects of extreme heat.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala convened a meeting to assess the potential impact of heatwaves in the state. Consequently, he has ordered the closure of educational institutions until May 6. Additionally, the State Disaster Management Authority, in an online session attended by District Collectors, received directives from the CM regarding preparations for the monsoon season. With the India Meteorological Department issuing a yellow alert for certain districts, Vijayan urged residents to avoid direct sunlight exposure between 11 am and 3 pm on Thursday and Friday. Furthermore, he instructed adjustments in work timings for those exposed to such conditions, emphasizing the closure of educational institutions until May 6 and conducting audits in fire-prone areas.
