Delhi Schools to Remain Closed on September 11 Due to BRICS Summit: Check Holiday Details

Delhi schools, including government, government-aided and recognised private schools, will remain closed on September 11, 2026, due to BRICS Summit arrangements.

New Delhi: Schools across Delhi will remain closed on Friday, September 11, 2026, in view of arrangements for the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit being hosted in the national capital.

The Directorate of Education (DoE), Delhi, has issued an order directing all offices and schools under its jurisdiction to observe a holiday on September 11. The closure covers government, government-aided and recognised unaided private schools.

Why are Delhi schools closed?

The holiday has been announced because of the extensive security arrangements, traffic restrictions and movement of international leaders associated with the BRICS Summit. The summit is being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from September 11 to 13.

The Delhi Traffic Police has also announced diversions and controlled traffic arrangements at several locations from September 11 to 13 to facilitate the movement of summit delegates.

Which schools are covered?

The September 11 holiday applies to:

  • Delhi government schools
  • Government-aided schools
  • Recognised unaided private schools
  • Other schools under the jurisdiction of the Delhi Directorate of Education

The DoE’s official circular listing specifically includes “Holiday on 11.09.2026 (Friday) on Account of BRICS Summit.”

There is no nationwide school holiday on September 11; the closure announced here applies to schools covered by the Delhi Directorate of Education.

Parents and students should follow any additional instructions issued by their respective schools regarding classes, examinations or other scheduled activities.
