Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, a premier research institution under the Department of Atomic Energy, has invited online applications for 50 Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) positions for 2026. The fellowship offers young researchers an opportunity to pursue advanced research and PhD programmes in cutting-edge areas of science and engineering.

Fellowship Details

Selected candidates will work in research areas such as:

  • Physical Sciences
  • Chemical Sciences
  • Engineering Sciences
  • Nuclear Science and Technology
  • Computational Modelling
  • Materials Research
  • Robotics and Advanced Engineering Systems

The fellows will have the opportunity to register for PhD programmes under the Homi Bhabha National Institute.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should possess qualifications in relevant disciplines, including:

  • M.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, or related sciences
  • B.E./B.Tech./B.Sc. Engineering in eligible branches
  • M.E./M.Tech. in relevant fields

Candidates with valid national-level qualifications such as:

  • CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship
  • GATE
  • JEST

may receive exemptions from the screening test, subject to the institute’s criteria.

Age Limit

  • Maximum age: 28 years as on the closing date
  • Age relaxation is available for SC, ST, OBC, and PwBD candidates as per Government of India norms.

Stipend and Benefits

Selected JRFs will receive a monthly fellowship ranging from approximately ₹25,000 to ₹42,000, depending on qualifications and fellowship category. Additional benefits may include:
